Excellent, so what is Bio Cote?.

BioCote® protected products contain silver ions, a natural antimicrobial. BioCote protected products have a >95% to 99.99% efficiency against bacteria; in addition, they also help to protect against the growth of mould and fungi on their surfaces. When micro-organisms come into contact with the silver, their ability to reproduce is inhibited and they die.

Due to the properties of silver, the BioCote® antimicrobial agent is safe

and remains effective for the lifetime of the product.

Easibind has teamed up with Biocote Ltd to provide its range of printed documents, stationery and packaging with hygiene protection against the

growth of bacteria, mould & fungi through the new Easibind XtraProtect Coating. The inclusion of the BioCote® technology in XtraProtect provides an antimicrobial coating to the surface after printing. BioCote® can also be applied in the material itself as an additive.

Every day items that are used in public places, such as files, folders, organisers, menus, packaging, point of sale and display tickets, labels,

brochures, reference packs, etc, can be printed and protected with BioCote® technology, forming a powerful, built-in, additional line of defence against bacteria.

Clinical tests show conclusively that the Biocote® technology, based on silver ions, inhibits bacterial growth, thereby reducing the risk of cross contamination.

BioCote® has the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria on surfaces by up to 99.9% over a 24-hour period, in comparison to unprotected surfaces where they can proliferate at drastic rates. BioCote® antimicrobial agent is effective against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms including MRSA, E-coli, Legionella, Salmonella, Campylobacter and Listeria.

Easibind offers a range of polymers that offer greater resistance to bacterial growth than standard paper fibres. Now protection is offered on the printed surface with Easibind XtraProtect Coating, allowing information to be retained and reused on a daily basis, reducing the risk of bacterial cross contamination.

For example, in a public place, a simple menu could be handled numerous times in just one day making the potential for cross contamination very high. Therefore, we have to be vigilant and careful as it is impossible to wipe a surface clean every second of the day: Even menu cards, that are

regularly wiped clean can still harbour bacteria, which can be transferred from one person to another. As this silver ion technology is imbedded into the menu or other product surface at the time of manufacture, the BioCote® protection does not leach from the product and is effective for the lifetime of the product (The technology has been shown to demonstrate 25 years’ efficacy). The risk of infection remains high in hospitals and the same care and attention is required at food counters, restaurants, nursing homes, hotels,

public bars, and industrial areas. With the natural protection offered by Easicard polymers, we are now able to offer Biocote® antimicrobial

protection as an additional line of defence. The printed surface is the contact point and this requires 24/7 protection, no matter how many times it

is handled and used in every day conditions.
